Granddaughter of Mailman’s Department Stores Founder Continues Retail Tradition

Spring Garden Township, PA – Whitney Morgan grew up behind a cashier’s counter. As a kid, she’d take naps in the appliance section and bag gifts during the holidays at Mailman’s Department Store – one of York County’s first deep-discount retailers.
Her grandfather, the late Stanley Mailman, tried to make his store a place where everyone felt welcome.
“The staff there was extremely friendly,” Morgan said. “They knew every single person who came through the door. … It was a different period. Stores really catered to their customers.”
