Small Businesses Fill Niche, Sell Quality Products Not Found at Large Retailers

Marshfield, WI – When Kim Hartley opened her used bookstore in the downtown shopping district of Marshfield, she never expected to be busy during the holiday shopping season.

“I thought no one would want to buy used books at Christmas. But, it turns out people love old books,” said Hartley. She has found the season that starts the day after Thanksgiving to the day before Christmas is very good for business.

Many small retail businesses in the downtown district of central Wisconsin communities do well during the holiday season because they sell a niche product or have an established reputation for providing a quality product.
