Encouraging, sentimental and
conversational are key trends for 2021

As Zoom conferences continue in 2021, shoppers are finding ways to look stunning, even if it’s from the neck up! Vintage inspired, artistic and unique jewelry, along with sentimental, encouraging pieces are all in the forefront this year.

“We have seen a demand for both organic and irregularly shaped pearls, as well as more organic finishes in metal. Our Keshi and coin pearl styles accented with gemstones have been especially strong, as is our hammered silver Muse Collection, in 18k gold vermeil,” said Cathleen Ramos, a designer for Anatoli Jewelry.

Ramos also shared that the demand has increased for lockets. The historical detail, solid craftsmanship and timeless quality of the lockets, “which reflects a trend toward more sentimental, symbolic jewelry,” appeal to consumers.

“Funky and chunky” pieces are drawing attention in 2021, according to Tara McGowan, director of sales for Moonglow Jewelry, as is the popularity of layering necklaces and bracelets. In addition, adjustability and versatility for layered pieces allow trendy pieces to become classic ones shared Aurelie Dudziak, creative director and co-founder of Moonglow.

One other trend is a “move from statement jewelry to conversation jewelry,” according to Gretel Going, founder and designer of Fortune and Frame. “Jewelry has always been a way to express a person’s unique style, but we’re seeing more and more people looking to jewelry as a way to express their deeper personal stories.”

Going noted that people are “gravitating toward more inspirational pieces that ground them and keep them focused on their journey.” Fortune and Frame has noticed the messages being placed inside its pieces are changing; there is a focus on hope and quotes reflective of new beginnings.

Moonglow also noted meaningful jewelry — pieces that provide a “message and connection” — are both popular and universal.
