The holiday shopping season kicks off for pet-lovers of all types. From felines to canines and small animals to fish, there are gifts aplenty available in retail stores around the globe and online. According to the 2017-2018 APPA National Pet Owners Survey, about 78% of dog owners purchase gifts for their canines and 67% of cat parents purchase gifts for either holiday or birthday celebrations. These percentages of pet owners offers an opportunity for sales this holiday shopping season. Retailers have an opportunity to keep their customers happy by sharing resources regarding safety issues and recalls related to pet products. Since pet owners have an unwavering love for their animals, it is important for store owners to know what products may be affected by recalls or alerts and to inform customers. Store managers and owners that know the available resources help customers feel appreciated and offer customer service above and beyond the normal expectations. Stores that are seen as a resource often establish repeat business.
