Bearden Boutique Offers Suzani-Style Footwear, Bags
Bearden, TN – April Montgomery’s new Bearden boutique offers original boots, shoes and bags not readily available in much of the United States.Suzani Styles opened in Bearden in October, and many of the products it carries are designed by Zeynep Yurderi, who lives in New Jersey but grew up in Turkey. Yurderi’s designs are suzani style, a decorative tribal tapestry developed in Central Asia around the 18th century. Montgomery said the word suzani comes from the Persian word for needle.

Armonk Merchants Pleased With Holiday Sales
Armonk, NY – Merchants on Main Street in Armonk, abuzz with activity for construction of Armonk Square, were buoyed by spirited sales during the Christmas season in North Castle.
“This was my first holiday season and sales met — and exceeded — my expectations,” said Vasilika Poniros, owner of L.O.L Kids, a children’s clothing boutique.
Poniros said she was most surprised by the numbers of customers from outside North Castle who stopped in town specifically to shop.
Wickford Welcomes Elle G Boutique
Wickford, RI – There’s a new kid on the block in Wickford Village – Elle G.
Many may have stumbled upon the new boutique during this year’s Festival of Lights’ tree lighting, which coincidentally was opening day for Elle G’s owner Lauren Greif. Though opening day saw a few “coming soon” signs on the racks as Greif waited for her inventory, the exposure during Wickford’s fan-favorite holiday celebration was worth it, she said.
Now more than a month after her grand opening, Greif has packed her store with everything from clutches to necklaces to sassy dresses and jackets.
Small Business Resolutions: Occoquan Antiques Now a Boutique
Dale City, VA – Occoquan Antiques owner Gudi Bignotti is done with retirement. After nearly closing the shop in 2011 and closing it to retire in April of 2012, Bignotti has downsized and moved her business from Mill Street to Union Street.
“My husband saw that I was not happy after we did all the traveling that you do after you retire, that’s supposed to be so wonderful,” she said. “We did it all, and that was the end of it. I could not stand it anymore. I said, ‘Harry, I have to open another store.'”
“We are in this for the long run,” she added.

Area Retailers Happy With Holiday Results
Plymouth, MI – While various businesses experienced a variety of levels of success, there’s a general feeling among Plymouth retailers that the 2012 holiday shopping season was a success.
Many of the area retailers either matched or exceeded the sales levels they reached in 2011, according to Plymouth Downtown Development Authority officials.
Tony Bruscato, the DDA’s director of operations, said during his travels around the shopping district over the holiday, shopkeepers seemed to be pleased.
