Heard on the Street: Rochester Boutique Will Pique Your Interest

Rochester, MN – Calli Babcock hopes her new addition to a family’s business in southwest Rochester will catch the attention of shoppers.

Following in the entrepreneurial footsteps of her parents, Jodi and Dave Babcock, Calli Babcock is opening a new Rochester boutique called Pique. She hopes to launch the new shop later this month, possibly on Oct. 29.

“I see Pique as a contemporary boutique like ones on Chicago or other larger cities. It’ll have a modern style. I’m bringing in items that the Rochester area doesn’t have now,” she says.

‘Tis the Season for Hiring

Retailers betting on a prosperous Christmas sales season are bulking up their holiday hiring both nationally and in northeastern Louisiana.

National retailer Kohl’s, which has a store in Monroe, said it will hire more than 52,000 holiday workers this fall, a 10 percent increase over 2011, while other big box players like Toys R Us and Macy’s have also announced holiday hiring spikes.

“We’re definitely looking forward to a successful holiday season,” said Kohl’s Monroe store manager Duriell “Duke” Quinn. “We’re hiring an additional 15 people.
