Local Art to Crow About
Natick, MA – Ten years ago, two female artists went out to try their hand at running a home show together. They had so much fun, and enjoyed their work so much that they banded together with three other friends and opened the Five Crows Gallery and Handcrafted Gifts.
Located at 8 Court St. in Natick, the Five Crows is both a gallery and a shop full of shelves displaying the work of many fine local artists.
“We have 145 artists in the store,” said co-owner Ginger McEachern.
Dallas Market Hotel Bookings Up 25 Percent
Dallas Market Center (DMC) today announced that significantly more hotel nights have been booked prior to this year’s Dallas Total Home & Gift Market (June 20-26) than in June 2011. DMC’s Market Travel department has seen a more than 25 percent increase in hotel bookings over the same period last year, indicating an increase in Market traffic.
“The increase in hotel bookings shows that more buyers are coming to Market and they’re staying longer in Dallas,” said Cindy Morris, COO, Dallas Market Center.

This year’s high school and college graduates are expected to get a generous send-off, with the total spending on graduation gifts expected to top $4.7 billion, the National Retail Federation estimated.

Facebook has announced the Business Boost programme to help small businesses reach customers, as companies seek to grow by using the social media site.
The series of initiatives include a free advertising credits programme for businesses which sign up, as well as a downloadable guide ‘Boost Your Business with Facebook’, to help understand how social can help drive growth.
Facebook has also teamed up with the British Chamber of Commerce to go on the road to provide workshops to give face to face advice, firstly in Birmingham and Glasgow, before further events go ahead in Man

Narragansett Craftsmen Carry on Sacred Tradition at Purple Shell
Charlestown, RI – Contrary to popular belief, wampum — the beads made from shells by Native American tribes — was not used as a form of currency by the Eastern Woodland tribes, including the Narragansett. Rather, these shells were considered sacred, used in jewelry and traditional garb.
For the Narragansett tribe, wampum means quahog shells, characterized by the deep purple color inside the shell.
