Feizy Rugs Renews Showroom at Las Vegas Design Center

Feizy Rugs has announced a two-year renewal with World Market Center Las Vegas for its showroom in the Las Vegas Design Center.

The manufacturer of fine, hand-knotted, hand tufted and power loomed rugs has renewed its lease for its more than 14,300-square-foot showroom in Building C, Suite C-399, as momentum continues to build for the upcoming Las Vegas Market, Jan. 30-Feb. 3.

“We are excited to renew our commitment to World Market Center Las Vegas. Las Vegas has been and continues to be an exciting market for Feizy Rugs that draws the crème de la crème of buyers.

HandCrafting Justice Pottery Selected for Display by Sustainability

HandCrafting Justice is honored to be selected to display at the NYIGF SustainAbility project, which is a special exhibit and educational series showcasing “green” gift and home products and business practices during the exhibition.

Our selected piece, the Sunflower Vase, is made by the artisans at Isan Pottery in Nongkhai, Thailand.

A Giving Gift Shop

Selkirk, MB – The gift shop at the Selkirk and District General Hospital is like no other.

Since 1994 the Selkirk Ladies Auxiliary has been running the shop on a volunteer basis about 24 hours per week with the proceeds being donated towards projects for the hospital. Not only that, but some of the products sold at the shop are donated as well – items such as knitting, floral arrangements as well as adult and children’s books.

This year the group donated $17,000 – $3,000 of which will go towards the MRI for the new hospital.

As a continuation of the “iPad Tips and Tricks” series developed by Web4Retail for the International Home Furnishings Representatives Association, a seminar will be held at the World Market Center Las Vegas Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. in World View on the sixteenth floor of Building B.

ART Announces Las Vegas ART Card Participants and Market Events

Accessories Resource Team (ARTTM), the association for the decorative accessory segment of the home furnishings industry, has announced the 13 vendors participating in the organization’s ART Card Program during the 2012 winter Las Vegas Market. In addition, ARTTM will co-host an industry mixer with The Phillips Collection on Monday, January 30th, along with presenting a “Superior Retail Selling: Powerful Principals of Influence” seminar on Tuesday, January 31st.

The ART Card Program, which launched in the summer of 2011, is exclusive to ARTTM members.

Lake Bluff Store Capitalizes on Candy’s Ageless Appeal

Lake Bluff, IL – There’s something about kids and candy that seems to go together.

“We enjoy watching kids come in to shop” said Denise Peterson, co-owner of Sweet Things in Lake Bluff. “They get all excited.”

But with the Sweetest Day of the year coming up in just a few weeks (Valentine’s Day), candy has no age limit.

Sweet Things candy and gift store, located next to the Brookside Cleaners at 615 Sheridan Road in the downtown area, opened Oct. 1 led by Peterson and co-owner Ilene Disch.

Shop Locally to Support Your Community

There are several movements nationally to promote locally owned, independent businesses. These are the businesses that support the vast majority of community activities. Consumer dollars spent with these small businesses stay in the communities and in turn support nonprofit agencies and other activities. The taxes these business pay support local schools, libraries, and municipalities.

One of the movements is the 3/50 Project. Its website states that for every $100 spent at locally owned, independent stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures.

Some with Smaller Businesses Optimistic

Small-business owners are slowly growing more optimistic about the future and could add workers in 2012, several new national surveys suggest.

Andrew Lynch says he doesn’t need a survey to tell him the economic landscape is improving.

“We’re the best indicator you can have,” said Lynch, president of Zipline Logistics, a Grandview Heights-based transportation company that moves goods for its clients.

“We’re seeing growth from our clients. They’re doing better and moving more snack foods, beverages, toys, consumer products and clothing,” he said.

Casper, WY – Julie Lawrence, owner of Cactus Arts Studio & More in Casper, craves one-of-a kind items of home décor.

Sometimes, Lawrence buys new items, which she redesigns by adding details or artistic flair.

She also paints and decorates furniture, something she’s been doing for about 18 years. Lawrence discovers pieces with potential just about anywhere.

“I’m always looking. They know me real well in the secondhand stores,” she says with a laugh.

Dallas Market Center and the Accessories Resource Team (ART), the trade association representing the decorative accessory industry, announced the winners of the 23rd annual ARTS Awards during a gala event held the evening of Saturday, January 21 at the ARTS Awards’ new location, the Hilton Anatole Hotel. Guests attended the ceremony that recognized ARTS Awards recipients in 26 different categories. Allan H. Palacek, founder/CEO and lead designer of PALECEK, was honored with the Academy of Achievement Award for his significant impact on the home décor and decorative accessories industry.
