UMA Enterprises Relocates, Expands at Gift+Home at Las Vegas Market
World Market Center Las Vegas announced today that UMA Enterprises, one of the largest importers in the home décor industry, has relocated and expanded their showroom space for the upcoming Winter 2012 Gift+Home at Las Vegas Market, Jan. 30 – Feb. 3, 2012.
The move nearly doubles the showroom size for the home décor importer.
New Gift Shop opens in Ottawa
Ottawa, ON – If you’ve happened by any craft show recently, or negotiated your way down Somerset from Rochester to Preston, you’ll probably have noticed a fragrance to the air that wasn’t there before. It’s all thanks to Purple Urchin (P.U.!), a new little shop that sells locally-made soaps, lotions, scrubs and more.
Co-owned by Sarah Stewart and Rebecca Pereira, this new venture is all set to ensure that Ottawans have an eco-friendly, non-chemical-based alternative to Dove and Old Spice (no word yet on whether they’ve found the local version of the Old Spice guy, though).

The unique shop filled with specialty items is littered with home décor and holiday decorations unique for the Two River Area.

Topsfield Couple Runs One of Oldest Gift Shops at Faneuil Hall Market
Topsfield, MA – Boston Pewter Company, owned by Topsfield residents Lorraine and Jeff Allen, is one of the longest surviving gift stores in the Faneuil Hall Marketplace.
“For ten years after college I managed a gift store that sold pewter,” Jeff Allen said.
After parting with the store, Allen opened his own unique shop in Faneuil that features high-quality pewter gifts.
The Boston Pewter Company has the largest selection of American made pewter, said Allen who is also on the board of the Marketplace Merchants Association.
Eagles’ Wings Gift Shop Offers One-of-Kind Gift Possibilities
Northport, AL – The Eagles’ Wings gift shop in Northport is tiny, but the shelves are chock-full of one-of-a-kind items that would be welcome under a Christmas tree.
“We just expanded what we carry this year,” said Becky Johnson, office manager at Eagles’ Wings.
Proceeds generated by the shop go to Eagles’ Wings, a nonprofit organization that provides day habilitation services for adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.
Some of the items in the gift shop have been made by the participants in the programs.
New Shop Goes Crazy with Popcorn Flavors
Belmont, NC – Another unique business has popped up in downtown Belmont.
Tastebuds Popcorn opened Nov. 29 at 208 N. Main St. and is already getting lots of traffic from kernel crazies, Christmas-gift shoppers and customers who are just plain curious about a whole shop of popcorn.
Owner Jay Pithwa, who grew up just outside of London, moved to Belmont when his wife, Dr. Sapna Pithwa, took a job as a family physician in Cherryville.
“We looked at houses all over, from South Carolina to Charlotte to South Charlotte,” he says.
