Remodeled Museum Gift Shop Celebrates Willits Heritage, Artists
Willits, CA – The Mendocino County Museum in Willits has remodeled and restocked the museum store, just in time for holiday shopping.
The shelves are full of beautiful gift items, many from local artists and artisans.
“The focus has been local products,” said Barbara Willens, who was hired in July to “transform” the store, in addition to coordinating volunteers and school visits.
A wall was knocked out to give the store a little more space and a lot more natural light. The book section has been updated, including more books about wildflowers and about horticulturist Carl Purdy,

Palm Desert, CA – At Uncle Don’s Hobbies in Palm Desert, train sets are flying out the door, along with helicopters and remote-control cars.
“We’re up 34 percent over last year,” said owner Kevin Koch, who recently expanded his shop on Fred Waring Drive from 2,400 square feet to 3,600 square feet.
“Starting in November, we go from selling one train set a month to selling three to four a day, more to go around the tree prior to Christmas and outside as part of their decorations,” he said.

Greenwich Orchids Opens in Bedford Hills
Bedford Hills, NY – A little over 30 years ago, Greenwich Orchids’ owner Wendy Siegel received her first orchid.
“My late husband bought me my first orchid and I was so excited when I got it to re-flower. I started raising orchids in my basement until the basement was overcrowded with them,” said Siegel, who lives in Bedford.
Siegel and her husband then built greenhouses and became orchid suppliers for florist up and down the East coast.
