Puffins Gift Shop Moving From Watch Hill into Mystic

Mystic, CT – The Puffins gift shop in Watch Hill is moving to downtown Mystic, taking over a 1,700-square-foot space where the vacated Puritan & Genesta health food store once did business.

Puffins owner Margot Carlson, who ran a similarly named shop in Mystic many years ago at Factory Square, had been operating her retail store on a seasonal basis in Watch Hill for more than a quarter century.

Local Business Spotlight: Pondelek’s Florist and Gifts

Hellertown, PA – Located on Main Street, Pondelek’s Florist and Gifts is one of the oldest continuously operated businesses in Hellertown.

Opened by Alfred Pondelek in 1942, the business began in Bethlehem and later relocated to Hellertown. The Pondelek family originally ran five greenhouses, before consolidating and relocating to their current location at 1310 Main Street seven years ago.

“I pride myself on gifts at every price and including local products in the shop,” said current owner, Jacqueline Bodor.

Every Day’s a Holiday at New Asbury Avenue Store

Ocean City, NJ – At a time when many small retail stores are closing, Kathy Johnson opened two.

A visit to one of Johnson’s shops is a delight for all the senses.

The array of Christmas merchandise at Kathy’s Holiday at 11th Street and Asbury Avenue is arranged by theme and color, a visual treat for the eye. IBISWorld Forecasts Holiday Sales to Grow 3.3 Percent in 2011

Los Angeles, CA – After a strong Black Friday and Cyber Monday, overall holiday expenditure is expected to increase 3.3 percent to $64.3 billion, according to industry research firm IBISWorld. During the six-week period from Nov. 1 through Dec. 25, lingering unemployment will keep holiday retail sales from hitting pre-recessionary levels, despite the decline in aggregate household debt. However, retailers can still expect an uptick across all holiday categories.

IBISWorld expects consumers to spend 3.4 percent more on gifts this year, compared to 2010.

Gift Store Moves to Annville

Annville, PA – Strip mall or quaint, downtown Annville? For Laurie Stewart, the decision was pretty simple.

Stewart, owner of Stewart’s Gift Peddler, recently moved her business from a space in the Cleona Square shopping center to a cozy shop next to the Allen Theatre on East Main Street in Annville.

“We really like the quaintness of Annville, the college town,” she said. “The feel of this building is a little more ‘us’ than the Cleona store.”
