Predictions up for Holiday Shopping Season, Good News for Retailers
As the Halloween decorations are stowed and the candy shelves cleared of all that orange-and-black packaging, retailers’ fancy turns to the biggest season of the year: Christmas.
Forecasters are predicting better-than gross domestic product results for the 2011 holiday shopping season, which traditionally begins on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. Few retailers, however, are waiting for the starting gun, with plans for midnight openings and pre-holiday sales in full swing.

Local Jewelry Artist Brings Her Gems to Hingham

Lentini, a jewelry artist and photographer from Braintree is now selling her creations at Framing Concepts’ new location at 105 South St. Framing Concepts moved into their new space in September. According to the Hingham business, the expansion allowed for more gallery space and furthering opportunity to cater to customers’ on-going requests to peruse original artworks by local artists such as Lentini.
Dog Chapman’s New Store Opens At Koko Marina
Honolulu, HI – Cheering fans lined up for the opening of Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman’s new store at Koko Marina Shopping Center in Hawaii Kai Saturday.
The fans were eager for a chance to get an autograph and take a photo with Chapman and his wife. The popular reality show stars live in Hawaii Kai and decided to bring their gift shop to east Oahu. The shop is called Da Kine Dog House. It sells Dog the Bounty Hunter merchandise, clothing, books, DVDs and other items displaying the Dog’s image and personality.

New this year, the gift shop is featuring the works of Jo-Mar Ceramics of Waupun. Jo-Mar Ceramics and Glass, owned by artists John and Mari Loomans, opened in 1988 after the deaths of several family members. The art became a catharsis to draw them out of their grief.

St. Hilaire, MN – In Sharon Hasby’s workshop, ’tis the season for chocolate — and for peanut butter, coconut and cappuccino, too.
Hasby makes candy year-round, but has the biggest sales during the holiday season. Hasby sells a variety of candy, most of it some variation of chocolate, from her store/candy-making shop in St. Hilaire. She also sells it at craft shows in northwest Minnesota and northeast North Dakota and at the Kruse-Inn gas station and convenience store in St. Hilaire.
Hasby has been making for about 15 years.

Now Open at Lake Anne: Baby Blossom
Reston, VA – Baby Blossom, a boutique that features a wide variety of items for new parents, opened Oct. 29 at Lake Anne Plaza.
David and Bonnie Goldberg have owned the Baby Blossom store in Fairfax for five years. When it came time to expand, Reston was a good fit, says David Goldberg.
“We have always loved Lake Anne,” said Goldberg. “We have had many requests from customers from Reston, Ashburn, Sterling about opening up in the area.”
