Portage la Prairie, Manitoba – With Christmas less than two months away, many Portage la Prairie area residents will soon be starting their holiday shopping.

Crafter’s Hand shop in Portage la Prairie Mall, which is open only once a year around the holidays, is again open for business this year, and offers a variety of items and gift ideas for people out shopping for someone special.

Former Merchandiser Opens Boho72 Boutique

Dublin, OH – The space that previously hosted MJ’s Candy Bar is now catering to a new crowd.

Boho72 Boutique opened at 72 N. High St. in Dublin early this month, offering clothing, jewelry, handbags and gifts.

Opening a store is something that has weighed on the mind of Jamie Mollwitz, a former merchandiser for Macy’s.

“I’ve thought about it for a very long time. I’ve done merchandising at Macy’s and have some retail experience,” she said. “I decided to do it. I know if I didn’t do it now, I never would.”

Drive up the lane, and the home/store is up on the hill.

“No one lives here. It’s just a gift shop set up like a house,” said store owner Camille Liudahl. “Empty Nest is a cute gift store, a destination shop in a setting that is uniquely Iowa.”

Liudahl previously had a home-based basket business and wanted a store front. Setting up shop in a home was the answer.

Debbie Croft: Love of Weaving Turned into Business

Merced, CA – When visiting a national park or cultural museum, demonstrations of basket weaving are sometimes presented, and in the gift shop small packages of supplies and instructions for making baskets can be purchased. If the name on the package is Wildwoods Craft Kits, it came from the home of Lorna Pollack.

The cottage industry started in her home more than 30 years ago.

In 1978, while her daughters were students at Santa Cruz Waldorf School, a basketry workshop was given. Pollack was fascinated, and she borrowed or purchased as many books on the subject as she could.

New Shop is a Brit Special

Trentham, UK – A TEXTILE specialist has opened her first shop to showcase her patriotic collections.

Betley designer Jan Constantine yesterday cut the ribbon at the champagne launch of her cabin at the Trentham Estate shopping village.

As well as hand-embroidered homewares, Jan’s collection includes china, stationery, greeting cards and gift wrap, all with her iconic Union flag design.

She has also been commissioned to produce home textiles inspired by the London Olympics in 2012.

She said: “This is our first shop and hopefully the first of many more.
