To look at the exterior, you’d think that Tanya Murren’s Collage shop in Tumalo is just a little nook of a gift and greeting card store, a bit off the beaten path for tourists and probably starving for business.

Shavertown – Sarah Roberts always had a passion for bath and body products. She also had a desire to someday open her own business. So after returning to the area in late 2004, Roberts decided to combine her interests and Bathologie was born in February 2005.
Bathologie is Roberts’ fine bath and body boutique in the Back Mountain. Located at 120 N. Main St. right off Route 309, the store offers a wide array of boutique-brand bath merchandise including lotions, soaps and shower gels. In addition to traditional women’s goods, specialty items are sold for men, children, and babies.

Third time’s a charm
The former owner of Country Hearts and Flowers and Homespun from the Heart has decided to try it again.
Jan Davis recently opened Jan’s Country Homespun Hearts on Lebanon Road. This is third time she’s tried the business and hopes she has it “right” this time, she said.
“I keep coming back because I love going to all the trade shows and being around people. I’m definitely a people person,” Davis said.
In order to do trade shows and buy merchandise at the shows, Davis had to get another business license.
Another store tumbles into downtown Christiansburg
CHRISTIANSBURG — Despite its reputation as the big-box capital of the New River Valley, Christiansburg does have some specialty shops.
There are stores that sell only tires, telephones and tans. There’s even a store offering nothing but beads — thousands and thousands of beads.
Now, there’s the Tumbler Store.
“Do what?” you ask.
“People understand cups,” said Reba Boyd, manager of the new store on Franklin Street.
Adele’s II, and Jerry, to close door for good
Encino – For 32 years, Jerry Hurwitz had his wife, two kids and Adele’s II.
The gift shop at Ventura Boulevard and Louise Avenue sold personalized mementos to be passed along at Christmas, on Valentine’s Day, at a bar mitzvah. Hurwitz, with his firm handshake and ever-present smile, was the engine that made it run.
The store helped him raise his family, pay for their nice Valley Village home and send the kids to college.
All-natural soaps, related products at Red Bank store; owner looks to expand
Working as a textile designer, Ellen D’Amore traveled the world.
There were stops at mills in India, China, Russia and throughout Europe. It was during those trips that she lathered up her passion, buying and trying all-natural soaps from around the world.
“I bought soap in every country in Europe I went to,” said D’Amore, of Red Bank. “I’d stock up there.”
In late 2004, D’Amore turned her love of soap into a business, opening Soapmarket in Red Bank.
Her product makes beach sand take a powder
Deborah Anastos knows there’s nothing like a day at the beach, but that doesn’t mean she wants to take the beach home with her.
“I just couldn’t stand having sand stuck to me anymore,” the 45-year-old from River Edge, Bergen County, says. “I had to do something about it.”
Banking that others share her love-hate relationship, Anastos created Sand Witch, a sand repellent. The product was launched Memorial Day weekend.

Owner of Domus in Los Gatos lauded by chamber
Margaret Smith is a bona fide success. After all, she has the awards to prove it.Last April, the San Jose Business Journal named Smith the small businesswoman of the year at its Women of Distinction Awards dinner at the Fairmont Hotel.
Now the Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce is getting into the act, naming Smith the Los Gatos businessperson of the year.
The Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce will honor Smith at a dinner at the Opera House at 5:30 p.m. on July 19.
Receiving awards for her success as a businesswoman and for her work promoting women in business is not something new for Smith.

Mother-daughter duo pushing smiles at Pink Zebra gift shop
Melissa Hardy and her mother Jo Ann Penzin decided to apply their zeal for shopping and open a gift shop.
The Pink Zebra is this mother-and-daughter duo’s first store and they have never owned any other type of business. “It’s our first venture,” Hardy said. The shop opened in February.
They became interested in retail for good reason:”Mostly because we are shop-a-holics. We love to buy and now love to sell,” she said.
Owner to close yarn shop; Bonnie Kotary cites high taxes, competition from big-box stores as factors
Schenectady — The owner of an Upper Union Street yarn shop says she is closing because of high taxes.
“Our payouts are more than our income. Times have changed,” says Bonnie Kotary, 70.
Kotary’s Ye Olde Yarn & Gift Shoppe has served customers for 30 years but will close this summer.
Big things come in small packages
The undeniable smell of soy candles wafts out the door when you pull up to Kathy’s Little Reminders gift shop. But there’s much more inside than just can-dles.
“The handbags are so cute they are really popular,” Kathy Hutton said. “I just love my soy candles so much.”
Linens, jewelry, handbags, clothing, shoes, cosmetics, skin care products, rosary beads – you might be surprised how much variety is packed into this little shop. And I mean little.
The one room store is right next door to the Richmond An-tique Center, in a small unat-tached building.
CraZy LadyZ come to town; Women’s clothing store opens second location
West Ocean City — Crazy ladies have come to town. The shop, that is, although, as owner Jan Parks likes to say, “There’s a little crazy in all of us.”
Crazy Ladyz, a women’s clothing store, opened in the Ocean Gateway Center on Route 50 June 22. It is the second Crazy Ladyz for owners Parks and Louise Reardon, who already own a store in Chincoteague, Va.
“We had so much fun working in the store in Chincoteague,” Reardon said.
SKB Buys San Francisco Giftcenter & Jewelrymart for $94.8 Million
Portland, Ore. – ScanlanKemperBard Companies has acquired the San Francisco Giftcenter and Jewelrymart for $94,750,000. The Portland, Ore.-based real estate merchant banking firm plans to invest an additional $8,650,000 to reposition and stabilize the 388,324-sf, two-building property in the rapidly gentrifying South of Market (SOMA) area of Downtown San Francisco.
The San Francisco Giftcenter and Jewelrymart are housed in 888 Brannan St., an architecturally noteworthy five-story building developed in 1918, and 850 Brannan St., a three-story building developed in 1987.
