The Backyard Naturalist Celebrates 25 Years in Olney

Olney, MD – It was 1989 when Debi and Mike Klein opened The Backyard Naturalist in Olney — a time when Olney, and life in general, were much different from today.
“We were two young kids with what we thought was a cool idea that we hoped would catch on,” Debi Klein said. “Now here we are, 25 years later.”
Even as the culture has become more cyber oriented, the store, which caters to birders and homeowners who want to spruce up their yards with its flags, wind chimes, statuary and garden accents, has been successful.
