Vintage Retail Space Gorgeous Gerties Opens on West Street, Dorking

Dorking, UK – AN EXCITING new retail concept opened with a 1950s flourish in Dorking this weekend.

Gorgeous Gerties is a tearoom and traditional sweet shop, but customers wandering upstairs will discover a gift store stocked by 25 independent traders, with a distinctly vintage flavour.

The idea was dreamed up by friends Debbie Wright and Tracey Allen, who have donned their matching pinnies to welcome their guests and wrap gifts chosen from their broad selection.

Band T-shirts, Posters Drive Penny Lane For More than 40 Years

Springfield, IL – You can tell just by looking at the storefront that Penny Lane is different than other Springfield gift shops.

Look there, in the window is a remote-controlled zombie doll. And a “Hippies Use Back Door” sign. And sparkly crystals, feathery dreamcatchers and a Bob Marley poster. The blue-edged mortar on part of the nearly block-long complex is artistically oozing out of the bricks it holds together.

Gaze upward and you’ll see that some of the soffit under the eaves is painted to look like the night sky.

Small Business Administration Recognizes Brown & Hopkins Country Store

Chepachet, RI – Elizabeth Yuill, owner and shopkeeper of the historic Brown & Hopkins Country Store in Chepachet, has been named by the U.S. Small Business Administration as one of its 2013 Rhode Island small-business award winners.

Yuill and other recipients of the SBA awards will be honored during the annual Rhode Island Salute to Small Business luncheon on June 12 at the Alpine Country Club in Cranston.

The SBA awards will be presented in nine categories. Yuill won in the Rhode Island Women-owned Small Business of the Year category.
