New Candy Shop Opens in Berlin
Berlin, MD – When Connie Mayers decided to open a candy shop, she knew women would be her primary customers.
So, to be successful, she designed her shop around what women would like: chocolate and jewelry.
“They come in and see the counters and the chocolates and then they turn around and see the jewelry,” Mayers said. “The response is overwhelming.”
Mayers opened Main Street Sweets this fall in downtown Berlin.

Ellington, CT – The Scandinavian Gift Shop opened 49 years ago in the Ellington Center Plaza and Siv Harvey still runs the shop, now out of her home, across the street from its original location.
“It took time for the townspeople to get used to modern Scandinavian designs,” Harvey said. “And the old-timers looked at prices and gasped for air because they were so high!”
Harvey sells imports from Scandinavia, like porcelain, jewelry, ornaments and crystal. She also sells traditional Scandinavian foods.
Christian Book Store Opens to Much Fanfare
Show Low, AZ – Gabriel’s Landing Christian Gift and Book Store at 308 N. White Mountain Rd., Ste. G in Show Low opened their doors Dec. 1, to a steady flow of customers.
This new retail store venture was formed under the wings (pun intended!) of Gabriel Outreach, Inc. a (501(c)3 organization founded in 2006 by Dr. Jean Lee.
Holidays Keep Specialty Kiosk Owners Busy
Fargo, ND – Gregg Robbins typically only dreams about being home for the holidays.
He can remember only one time he’s been back to his home state of Nebraska for the holidays in the past 15 years.
Robbins and his wife, Julie, own a mall kiosk operation at West Acres Shopping Center with several holiday units. Most of their shops are open only for the holidays, which is when they do the bulk of their sales.

Steve Silver Co. Takes Permanent Showroom for Winter Las Vegas Market
Occasional and casual dining furniture Steve Silver Co. is exhibiting in a permanent 9,828-square-foot showroom at the winter Las Vegas Market being held Jan. 28 to Feb. 1.
Steve Silver will show in space A-1016 at the Las Vegas Market. The company had been showing in a temporary space that was about 5,000 square feet in Building C, so the new showroom doubles its space.
“We’ll be introducing a great deal of new product across all our categories, including home office and leather upholstery,” said David Corbin, chief operating officer.

New Toy Store Opens on Main Street in Medford
Medford, NJ – Kim and Joe Catanzarite were so captivated by Medford when they visited several years ago that they recently relocated here to start a business. Wonder World, their new toy store located at 23 South Main Street, opened Oct. 18.
“We first visited here in 2003 after reading a magazine article naming Medford one of the best small towns in the U.S. Even though we’re originally from northern New Jersey, that was the first we’d heard of this town,” Kim recalled.
“We had dinner at Braddock’s and pizza at Riviera and loved both restaurants.
