MarketPlace Philadelphia Soars in Charity Plane Pull

The team at MarketPlace Philadelphia Management flexed their muscles for a good cause at the fourth annual Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House (PRMH) Plane Pull event on Saturday, May 19.

Held on Atlantic Aviation’s tarmac at Philadelphia International Airport, the Plane Pull is organized by The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House and is designed as a tug-of-war competition between teams to see who can pull a plane over the designated distance in the shortest amount of time.

Get Ahead at New Hospital Gift Shop

Dunnville, ON – Fifty years ago a tuck shop was opened in the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital with only a pass through window and a couple tables and chairs for its customers.

Country Consignment/Gift Shop Has Variety of Specialty Foods

Oneida, IL – Don’t feel sheepish if you are unaware of the Ewesful Farm Country Store, 112 W. Depot St. The warm weather is helping customers become more aware of the shop, tucked away in Oneida’s business district across the railroad tracks from U.S. 34.

Leanna Boynton opened the store in late February. One of the first things everyone notices is the store’s name. Boynton said she and her family moved into the area from the Quad Cities in the early 1980s and she bought some sheep.

‘Shop Hoboken’ To Return in Full Force

Hoboken, NJ – For the second straight year, the city will play host to an event designed to encourage shopping at local businesses throughout the area.

Mayor Dawn Zimmer and other local business owners held a press conference on Thursday at Anastasia’s Accessories at 88 Garden St. to announce and discuss details of the event.

Cash Mob Meets in Avondale to Buy Locally

Avondale, FL – A mob descended on a peaceful gourmet store in Avondale Saturday afternoon, but that was just fine with the owners: This mob was there to shop.

More than 60 people bearing cash lined up inside Green Man Gourmet, stretching from the cash register at the front of the store to the displays of locally roasted coffee and local honey at the back.

It’s called the Jax Cash Mob, a play on the term flash mob — groups of people who show up in the middle of some public place to do an organized song-and-dance routine for unsuspecting passersby.

Coffee Corner Expands Local Service

Sidney, NE – The Coffee Corner has expanded into Sidney Regional Medical Center at the request of SRMC CEO Jason Petik.

The Coffee Corner Cure & Gift Shop opened on May 10 just inside the main entrance, the gift shop’s previous location.

The Coffee Corner owner, Barb Meier, said that SRMC CEO Jason Petik approached her with the opportunity due to employees’ requests.

“I think they want to be up to speed,” Meier said. “Most hospitals are adding espresso bars now.”

Peninsula is Getting New Trail Mix Store

Peninsula, OH – The Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park is turning an old railroad car into a new shopping venue in Peninsula.

The rail car, on loan from the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, will be parked on a rail spur north of state Route 303. It will be called Trail Mix, Peninsula, and should open by Memorial Day, said Deb Yandala, president and chief executive of the conservancy, a friends-of-the-park group.

It will be used until the fall, when the store moves into its new leased site off Mill Street close to the Peninsula Depot and the Lock 29 Trailhead.

Roman’s Chicago Showroom Moves to New Location

Roman will be relocating it’s showroom in the Chicago Merchandise Mart to suite 13-600, located in the north-east corner of the 13th floor. The move comes at the request of the Mart, as they consolidate gift and seasonal permanent showrooms onto one floor.

“We were able to implement changes to our showrooms in other markets that greatly improved the display of our product,” says Sally Murphy, Director of Merchandising at Roman. “While inconvenient, the move has allowed us to reassess every aspect of our Chicago showroom, from product displays to entertaining customers.
