Local chocolatier wows Seattle trade show
Deadwood — People in the Seattle area liked what they tasted when they experienced Chubby Chipmunk truffles for the first time during a July 12 show.
The Deadwood chocolate shop, owned by Mary “Chip” Tautkus, brought home some awards and new customers in its first out-of-state competition.
The Seattle Luxury Chocolate Salon held its second annual tasting awards and Tautkus decided to take an entry and join the two dozen other chocolate makers involved. Chubby Chipmunk won first prize for top toffee and second place in best truffle, best gift set and best overall.

Coffee shop sells more than hot drinks
Dayton, OH — People come for the coffee, and stay to browse the collectibles.
A new coffee shop called Coffee Beans and Collectible Things opened in early July at 631 Watervliet Ave. in Belmont’s business district. The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
The shop also sells hundreds of collectible items, many of which were gathered by shop owner Charles Leonhardt over the years. All of the items in the shop are for sale, he said.
Leonhardt has collected NFL jerseys, MAD magazines and vintage toys.
Store centers on family, faith
Teresa Haney and her daughters are a close-knit bunch. They shop together, hang out together – do pretty much everything together. So it makes perfect sense that they have started a business together.
Haney and her daughter Emily Sneed opened the doors of Creative Treasures, on Main Street across from Town Hall, on July 3, selling gift baskets and religious supplies in what they describe as a homey and family-friendly atmosphere.
“We have gift baskets for pretty much any occasion,” Haney said.

Mooresville, NC — After sluggish first quarter online sales, Wholesalecrafts.com, the premier web service for sourcing American and Canadian made crafts, reports a small second quarter increase over 2008 second quarter, but a significant increase between first and second quarters, 2009. Total online sales for April, May and June 2009 were $705, 576 – a 1% increase over 2008 second quarter results. 3,365 orders were placed online – an 8.58% increase over 2008 second quarter orders.
F.S. Chocolatiers: Sweet treats keeping sisters busy
Mansfield — The owners of F.S. Chocolatiers love making, selling and eating chocolate.
Co-owner Amy Murray said despite the troubled economy, a lot of local people are buying their chocolate products.
