Sisters Boutique offers unique shopping experience
Floresville — “We have people who come here from Alaska to shop at Christmastime!” said Stacy Cameron, in a tone of absolute awe and amazement.
Of course, there are many who will travel miles to visit and shop at Sisters Boutique in Floresville, but to make a regular habit of coming from Alaska, it must be a unique destination.
It’s not just the clothing, home décor, fashion accessories, or other products that make Sisters such a welcoming place to shop.
BizTips: Customer satisfaction ideas
Halifax, Nova Scotia – In retail, shoppers can usually choose from several stores for the same items. But you spend hard earned resources on advertising to convince them to visit your store. Once you have the shopper in your store, they must leave satisfied if you want them to visit you again. And repeat business is the name of the game, actually the only game. Making it difficult and unpleasant to buy from you won’t go very far in generating that repeat business and referrals. Make your customers love your store by being the place where they want to shop.
Price-Fixing Makes Comeback After Supreme Court Ruling
Manufacturers are embracing broad new legal powers that amount to a type of price-fixing — enabling them to set minimum prices on their products and force retailers to refrain from discounting.
For the better part of a century, punishing retailers for selling at cut-rate prices was an automatic violation of antitrust law. However, a Supreme Court ruling last year involving handbag sales at a Dallas mom-and-pop store, Kay’s Kloset, upended that original 1911 precedent, potentially altering the face of U.S.

Shoppers go for the gold on tax holiday
Savvy shoppers crowded Boston-area malls and stores yesterday, taking advantage of the state’s fifth annual sales tax holiday and saving 5 percent on items ranging from school supplies to expensive electronics. Retailers, fearful that the sluggish economy would keep spending down, were relieved.
“We are extremely busy,” said Mohammed Azad, manager of Sears at CambridgeSide Galleria, where families pored over gas stoves and examined refrigerators. Nearly 100 of his 135 employees were on hand yesterday to handle customers – three times a normal Saturday’s staffing.
School start indicator of retail health
Retailers will be paying special attention to sales totals this weekend.
School begins Monday in some South Dakota towns, including Sioux Falls. The shopping for supplies and clothing in preparation for the return to classes usually is a key indicator of economic health for the rest of the year.
That’s true for Sioux Falls-based pharmacy and retailer Lewis Drug.
With record gas prices and rising grocery costs buffeting U.S.

Thousands hit Houston-area stores on tax-free weekend
While clouds kept temperatures relatively low on Saturday, shoppers’ tempers were hot as they flocked to stores during Texas’ annual sales tax holiday weekend.
Scarce parking and long lines plagued some retailers, making shoppers grumpy and less than polite.
“This is crazy. I’ve never seen people act like this,” said Trey Robinson, who went to The Woodlands Mall to buy a last-minute anniversary gift Saturday afternoon.
Unaware of the tax-free weekend, he found himself amid thousands of shoppers.
“It’s definitely worse than Christmas.
‘Made in Canada’ gains cachet
High oil prices and increased environmental awareness are combining to change our shopping habits and the origin of goods available in stores.
Not only are Canadian-made goods more popular and more affordable, but there’s some evidence that consumers are starting to shop closer to home.
The trend to Canadian-made goods is much in evidence at the Canadian Gift and Tableware Association’s fall trade show in Toronto this week, where 52 per cent of retailers polled said they plan to increase the number of Canadian-made products in their stores, compared with only 34 per cent of the same

Months in the making, the $21,000 remodel incorporates hand-hewn logs and mossy granite stones pried from the frozen earth in the dead of winter.
“Hauling the logs was the fun part,” said Todd Saarinen, museum preparator. “I did that with a snowmobile and a log arch on skis I used behind my sled. The hard part was hewing the logs.
