Upper Canada Selects OneCoast to Provide National Sales Representation

OneCoast, the largest and only national provider of sales and marketing services to vendors and retailers of home decor, gift and collegiate products, announced today that it will sell the complete line of Upper Canada Soap and Danielle cosmetic bags and mirrors on a nationwide basis to independent retailers through OneCoast’s field sales and telesales teams, showrooms, and website beginning January 1, 2008.

Upper Canada Soap will join OneCoast’s national sales and marketing service, National Division ONE (ND ONE), which carries only five other lines: New Creative, Mud Pie, C.R.

Gift-givers share area’s culture with locally made goods

Joyce Bledsoe has got a thing for Rochester. The 64-year-old resident of Jacksonville, Fla., has been enthralled with the area ever since shopping at a Wegmans store in October while visiting her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Mark Haglin, who recently moved to Fairport.

Bledsoe is back in town to help her daughter through her pregnancy.

Trapped in the gift card web

People are increasingly turning to gift cards as spending hours in a crowded mall looking for that last Xbox, iPod or Elmo grows less and less appealing. But shoppers should do a bit of research first.

The gift cards that require the most diligence are from banks and credit-card companies. They can be used nearly anywhere the issuer’s credit card is accepted.

More importantly, they expire, and the issuers tend to tack on fees.

American Express gift cards charge a monthly service fee of $2 after a year and $5.95 to replace a lost or stolen card.

San Francisco (MarketWatch) — Before the recent spate of toy recalls, Ashley DiGeronimo never bothered reading the fine print that revealed where a toy was manufactured.

For millions of U.S. consumers, gift cards are the perfect gift.

The National Retail Federation estimates that consumers will spend $26.3 billion on gift cards this holiday season, up 6 percent from last year.

Shoppers at the Queens Center Mall speak in 150 languages – and merchants are trying to reach as many as they can by recruiting teams of people who can connect with them.

Queens Center is the only city megamall that offers translation services – with a core of full-time multilinguists and the ability to draw on dozens of mall employees who speak other languages.

“It’s important and very much needed, especially because of the cultural diversity of Queens,” said Dawn Simon, the mall’s marketing director.

Gift of giving to cost $724 this year

Canadians who shop on this side of the border will be doing more of it in large national chain stores, where they believe they will find better prices, more store staff and more convenient hours, a new survey says.

Altogether, Canadians said they plan to spend on average $724 on gifts this year, according to a survey conducted in October by Maritz Research.
