UK Grad Smells Success with Downtown Fragrance Store

Lexington, KY – Whiffs of jasmine and cigarette, Turkish apples and sweet tart lemon fill the air at a downtown Lexington boutique that specializes in scents. The fragrance store, The Crushed Violet, is a place where your nose does the shopping.

Named after the Mark Twain quote that states: “Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it,” the store carries 20 independent fragrance lines and features perfumes, lotions and soaps.

New Padanaram Business Repurposes Furniture

Padanaram, MA – After only a month in business so far, one SouthCoast store has already carved out a unique niche.

Gail Cardoso opened her Padanaram shop, Gigi”s by the Sea, with experience in sales and a passion for repurposing furniture and home decorating.

She owned her own nail salon with a boutique section, and she has also worked in sales and marketing for a jewelry company. Traveling for that job, she said she noticed something.

For The Bee Man, New Store is All the Buzz

Canastota, NY – Brian Howell wants to inspire development in downtown Canastota — one smokeless, dripless, scentless beeswax candle at a time.

Less than a year after opening a store on Canal Street, Howell is moving the retail and educational portion of his business, The Bee Man Candle Company, to Peterboro Street, which connects Route 5 to the Thruway and serves as the village’s main thoroughfare.

Candles still will be made at the 4,000-square-foot manufacturing space on Canal Street, he said.

Artisan House Co-Founder, Kurt Freiler, Dies

Kurt Freiler, a founding partner of Artisan House, designers and crafters of unique, fine-quality metal sculptures for wall, floor and tabletop, has passed away. He was 103. His death follows the passing of Artisan House’s other co-founder, Jerry Fels, in 2007 at the age of 90.

While Artisan House has experienced great success for nearly 50 years, it all began with Kurt Freiler and Jerry Fels. Soon after they met in the 1940’s, it became apparent the two shared a passion for creative development and design.

Tervis Receives Recycling Award From Florida Department of Environmental Protection

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. recognized Tervis today for its superior recycling efforts. In the first six months of 2013, this Florida-based company, famous for its drinkware products, achieved a recycling rate of 56 percent.

“This Florida-based company has done a great job recycling its waste, which reduces its environmental footprint,” said DEP Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard Jr. “We need more of Florida businesses to follow Tervis” example to improve Florida’s environment.

Home Shop Pairs Creative Style With Vintage Flair

Holidays Come Early at Karen’s Gifts
